About 30 specimens of the Cyprinid fossil fishes from the lto-o formation (early Miocene) have been collected since 1970. They belong to the same species. Pharyngeal teeth of the fossil fishes are very compressed ones which have narrow griding surfaces, except the first tooth in the main row. These characteristics resemble those of the genus Carassius and Carassioides (teeth of the main row). However, the fossil pharyngeal teeth consist of at least two rows and the number which have been recognized up to now are as follows: 5 in the main row, and 2 in the outer row. The number of the dorsal fin rays (Table 2) is rather smaller than that of the recent specimens. The teeth of the main row are different in number from the recent specimens; its first tooth in the form. Judging from these characteristics, it can be said that the fossil fish should belong to a new genus and species of the subfamily Cyprininae.
