Compared with the results of NINAYA Survey of mangrove swamps in Southeast Asia and SW Pacific from 1980 to 2000, paleoenvironments of the Japanese Islands in the Early Middle Miocene are analyzed. Many data of fossil mollusca, pollen, decapod crustacea etc. which are made clear in the latest days indicate well development of mangrove swamp environments in many places from Kyushu to the Northeast district.

The data are shown in the Tables and Figures. Paleoecology, paleoenvironment and paleogeography are discussed.
